Following consecutive road competitions Baylor's equestrian team made the most of its return home by posting a 10-8 victory over the Kansas State Wildcats on Friday afternoon at the Willis Family Equestrian Center. The victory by the Bears avenged a 14-6 October 12 loss to the Wildcats.
Baylor dominated the Hunter Seat events 7-3, taking four points in Equitation on the Flat and three in Equitation Over Fences. Mary Smitson and Nicole Brown were both double winners for the Bears. Brown earned MVP honors in Fences with a ride of 76, registering her eighth Fences MVP of the season and 10th overall. Also posting points in Flat were Shelby White and Cara Wilson while Beth Banister added a point in Fences. Kansas State's Leslie Yates was awarded MVP honors in Flat.
In the Western events the Wildcats edged the Bears 5-3. Posting wins for the Bears were Katie Buss in Reining and Ashleigh Carlson and Allison Orosz in Horsemanship. The Wildcats swept Western MVP honors with Alecia Zimbelman taking Reining honors and Courtney Watters earning Horsemanship honors.
Baylor will host Fresno State on Saturday, Feb. 23 11 a.m. at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.
