NO. 10 BAYLOR (8-1) 83, LAMAR (5-2) 36
FERRELL CENTER - WACO, TEXAS
DEC. 8, 2008 - ATTENDANCE: 5,536

Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey

On the game:
"Our defense is much further along then our offense. That might sound strange when you have six returning players and four starters but you have to remember at the end of the year you didn't have Jhasmin (Player) and Kelli (Griffin) was trying to blend in. Our offense scores lots of points quickly, and then our offense can struggle to score points for a long period of time. I just tend to think that it is going to get better and better and you just correct that and you make them stay with it in practice. We will continue to do that."

On the defensive effort:
"The one constant that you can have is that you always can have effort on the defensive end. You can sometimes shoot lights out and sometimes, no matter what you do, you can't score. You can control your defense much better than you can control your offense. I just think that they bought into it and they understand. We don't have blazing speed, but we are learning how to pressure the ball and how to defend off of the dribble and do what you can without getting beat. It has been good."

On Kelli Griffin:
"Kelli (Griffin) is the typical point-guard in that her job is to make everyone around her look better. (She) is going to get you the ball when all that you have to do is catch and finish. (She) is going to reward you for running the floor. Her shot is second. Sometimes there will be situations where Kelli is going to need to shoot more, and she will. "

Baylor Forward Danielle Wilson

On being able to finish and produce under the basket:
"The coaches have been getting on me a little bit just to score first, as soon as I catch the ball as well as looking to go to the basket strong and either get fouled or make the shot. I think it is getting better with practice and (the coaches) getting on me and telling me to post strong. I think it is getting better with time."

Baylor Guard Kelli Griffin

On having seven assists in back-to-back games:
"Like coach (Mulkey) said, I see myself as a passer first and a scorer second. I had 7 assists because my teammates hit shots when I gave them the ball. It is all a team effort."

Lamar Head Coach Larry Tidwell

Opening Statement:
"I'll be real honest, I love Baylor. I was here for six years, my oldest son graduated from here. To come in this arena and see all these banners was a great experience. We had been playing really decent. We hit some shots and then we didn't hit any shots. I have some pretty young kids. I wasn't coming in expecting to win. This is a top ten team and on the food chain I know where I am at."

On his team:
" I was disappointed in (my team). We turned a corner last year and I want to take them into arenas where there have been national championships and take them to arenas where it is first class and want them to feel that and enjoy it. But right now it looks like my girls are deer in the headlights. They just locked up on me. It is what it is. To be honest I know where I am at on the recruiting food chain and you just try to build off of that and find positives. We are 5-2 and trying to do some things right there. We are a legitimate three-point team. I have some nice shooters, but for some reason they were about two feet further back than normal and I don't know what they were thinking. We tried to make adjustments and it snowballed. Kim (Mulkey) and them could have beaten us by 130, but she was gracious and I appreciate that."
