MANHATTAN, Kan. - The sixth-ranked Baylor equestrian team extended its record to 4-0 with a victory over seventh-ranked Kansas State at the Fox Creek Farm in Manhattan, Kan., on Friday. The match ended in a 10-10 tie but the Lady Bears won in a tiebreaker 1294-1269.5. With the loss, Kansas State falls to 0-4 on the season.
Baylor Hunter Seat squad downed the Wildcats 6-4 while the Western riders dropped a 6-4 decision to Kansas State. The tie break is determined by compiling all the raws scores and dropping the lowest from each category.
Sophomore Kendra Vicary was the lone Lady Bear to receive MVP honors, riding to a score of 85 in Equitation Over Fences. Baylor topped the Wildcats in Fences 4-1 with wins by freshmen Lisa Goldman (82-79) and Kara Fergusson (79-60), Vicary and senior Nicole Brown (78-40). Goldman and Fergusson earned points in their first collegiate competitions.
In Equitation on the Flat the Wildcats edged Baylor 3-2. Juniors Heather Healy (74-67) and Margaret Beaudoin (70-63) registered wins for the Lady Bears.
Reining's two victories came from junior Valtie Riddle (68-66.5) and sophomore Katie Buss (66.5-0), while junior Madelyn Mooney (67.5-67) and senior Kim Marlowe (70.5-70) were edged out by just a half a point each.
Freshman Meghan Murphy and junior Allison Orosz earned Baylor's two points in Horsemanship. Murphy garnered the first point of her career with a 71.5-66.5 win while Orosz posted a narrow 72-71.5 triumph.
In exhibition competition, the Wildcats downed the Lady Bears, 9-3.
Next up for the Lady Bears is a Saturday morning matchup with No. 5 Oklahoma State. OSU enters the competition with a 2-0 mark after downing New Mexico State and SMU. The Cowgirl and Lady Bear matchup will be held at the OSU Equestrian Complex beginning at 9 a.m.
