WACO, Texas - The No.4 Baylor's men's tennis team continues its season with three home matches against ranked opponents this week when they host No. 45 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, No. 37 Washington and No. 14 Florida at the Baylor Tennis Center.
Baylor will take on TAMU-CC on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 2 p.m., while Washington and the Bears meet at 3 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 1, and the Florida match begins at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Feb. 3.
Baylor comes into Wednesday's match with the undefeated record of 3-0 after sweeping Prairie View A&M, Southeastern Louisiana and UT-Arlington, all by 7-0 scores, in its triple-header this past Saturday.
The Bears are led on the season by 10th-ranked Denes Lukacs' 23-5 singles mark. Two-time All-American Lars Poerschke, the team's most experienced player, is unranked due to the fact that he did not participate in fall competition.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, defending Southland Conference champion, enters the contest at 0-1 after suffering a 4-3 setback to No. 30 Clemson in the Islanders' season opener last Friday.
The 37th-ranked University of Washington enters Friday's match with a 2-0 mark after opening the season with a 7-0 blanking of Gonzaga and a 5-2 victory over Portland. After playing Baylor, the Huskies will travel to College Station, Texas, to play Texas A&M.
The 14th-ranked Florida Gators, who opened the season with a 7-0 victory over No. 64 Furman, will to be Baylor's toughest opponent to date with three players ranked No. 62 or higher on its roster. Senior Greg Ouellette leads the Gators with a No. 8 ranking, while freshman Alex Lacroix is No. 57 and senior Nestor Briceno is No. 62. Prior to their trip to Waco, the Gators will face 36th-ranked Miami (Fla.) on Tuesday and Central Florida on Friday.
