ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Baylor's women's golf team shot a second round 22-over-par 306 Friday to climb two spots into 16th at the 2007 NCAA Central Regional at the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Bears are 50 strokes over par at 618 through two rounds.
The Bears, ranked 35th nationally by Golfstat and seeded No. 8 in the Central Regional, stand 26 strokes below the eighth-place cutoff necessary to qualify for the NCAA Championship Finals. Baylor trails 15th place Michigan by two strokes and is nine strokes out of 11th place (Ohio State at +39, 607).
Senior Allison Martin leads the Bears at four over par through two rounds. The second-year transfer from the University of Georgia shot a three-over 74 Friday and is in16th place among individuals.
Southern Cal leads the regional through two rounds at three over par. TCU (+12, 580) is tied for second, followed by Indiana (+16, 584), Vanderbilt (+17, 585) and Tennessee (+19, 587).
Baylor's Hannah Burke, a freshman from England, shot a six-over 77 and stands tied in 65th place at 12 over par through two rounds.
Rounding out the individual scoring for the Bears were senior Anna Rehnholm, who jumped 20 spots with a four-over 75 and is tied at 74th at 15 over par; freshman Natalie Hocott, who carded a nine-over 80 Friday and is tied at 89th at 19 over; and junior Sian Reddick who is tied for 98th place at 22 over par after a 10-over 81 second round.
The Central Regional concludes Saturday with a final round beginning at 7 a.m. CDT at the University of Michigan Golf Course, a par 71, 6,116-yard course.
Baylor finished 14th at last year's Central Regional in Bryan Texas. The Bears best finish in regional play was fifth place in 2004 - which earned the school's only trip to the NCAA finals.
