AUSTIN, Texas - Baylor men's tennis team remained undefeated in Big 12 action when they posted a 6-1 road win over the University of Texas on Wednesday evening at the Longhorns' Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
The victory raises Baylor's season record to 20-3 and they now stand 4-0 in league action while Texas falls to 15-7 overall and 3-2 in Big 12 play.
The Bears claimed the doubles point when the tandems of Lars Poerschke/ Michal Kokta and Dominik Mueller/Denes Lukacs posted victories over their Longhorn opponents at courts two and three, respectively. The Longhorns' 28th-ranked duo of Dimitar Kutrovsky and Josh Zavala upset 18th-rated David Galic and Matija Zgaga in a hard-fought match, 8-7(3).
Baylor had already clinched the match before the Longhorns earned their lone point. Mueller, a freshman, was the first Bear to claim victory followed by Kokta, a senior, and Poerschke, a junior. To claim Texas' lone point, Luis Diaz Barriga downed Matt Brown at No. 3. Lukacs and Zgaga were the last two off the court for the Bears, both claiming wins at No. 6 and No. 4, respectively.
After playing three consecutive road matches, the Bears now return home to host their final two regular season contests before the Big 12 Championships. Baylor faces Oklahoma State on Friday, April 20 at 6 p.m. and the University of Oklahoma on Sunday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m.
