WACO, Texas - Baylor's English and Western equestrian teams received bids Monday afternoon to participate in the 2007 Varsity Equestrian National Championship (VENC) hosted by Baylor at the Heart O' Texas Fair Complex April 18-20. The Bears are seeded in both brackets, sixth in English and eighth in Western.

"We are thrilled to be invited to Nationals. We've done really well this year and have become a top team to contend with so we're absolutely excited for the invitation to be official. We're looking forward to hosting and are hoping people enjoy coming out to watch us," said head coach Ellen White.

Twelve English and twelve Western teams are chosen by the VENC Selection Committee and invited to participate. Championship awards are given to the tournament's overall winner as well as the best English and Western programs. Baylor University was selected to host the championships last June.

The invitation marks the second for Baylor's program in as many years. Last year the English Bears finished eighth in Albuquerque, N.M. Auburn took the overall title while South Carolina won English and Oklahoma State won Western.

This year's field includes eight schools participating in both English and Western with four schools riding in either English or Western. The English participants include, in seeded order, (1) South Carolina, (2) Oklahoma State, (3) Georgia, (4) Auburn, (5) Texas A&M, (6) Baylor, (7) Kansas State, (8) Fresno State, (9) University Tennessee - Martin, (10) New Mexico State, (11) Stephen F. Austin and (12) SMU.

The Western programs invited include (1) Texas A&M, (2) Georgia, (3) Kansas State, (4) Auburn, (5) New Mexico State, (6) Oklahoma State, (7) South Carolina, (8) Baylor, (9) Fresno State, (10) TCU, (11) Stephen F. Austin and (12) South Dakota State.
