WACO, Texas - Baylor's equestrian team closed out its home schedule Saturday morning with a 4-2 English win over Sacred Heart at the Willis Family Equestrian Center. Baylor's record remains 6-7 overall this year while the English team improved to 8-4-2. The Western team did not compete Saturday leaving its record at 3-8-2.
In the Fences portion of the show BU's Nicole Brown and Mary Smitson earned points for the Bears. Smitson recorded a 79-point ride on Copper while Brown was awarded the MVP honor with her 85-point ride on Maverick. Sacred Heart's Casey Marino tallied the Pioneers' single Fences point with her 74-point ride on Lincoln.
Baylor's success continued on the Flat as the Bears picked up two more points against by Smitson and Brown. Brown rode Duke for a 71.5-point routine while Smitson earned the MVP honor with her 74.5-point ride on Getty. BU's Cara Wilson and Scared Heart's Catherine Coyle tied with 70-point rides on Groucho. The Pioneers earned one point as Danielle Curcio posted a 74-point ride on Smiley.
Baylor's entire equestrian team returns to action next weekend at the Big 12 Invitational hosted by Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. Baylor is the tournament's fourth seed and will ride against the Aggies on the first day of competition, Sat., March 31.
