Bears' Rally Falls Short Against ORU 4-2

Jarman (1-1) held Baylor to a pair of runs, one earned, on four hits and four walks. The fourth hit was Matt Sodolak's leadoff single in the ninth. Ben Booker followed with a fly ball to left-center that was dropped by ORU center fielder Brendan Duffy. That was the last batter Jarman faced. Chance Chapman walked a batter before surrendering a sacrifice fly, and Eric Crichton induced a game-ending fielder's choice off the bat of Beamer Weems for the save.
Oral Roberts (3-5) scored a pair of runs in the top of the second on Tyler Waterdam's RBI single and David Genao's sacrifice fly.
Baylor answered with a run in the bottom of the inning when Drew Bias walked with the bases loaded. However, the Bears left the bases loaded as Chase Gerdes and Raynor Campbell struck out to end the inning. Baylor never threatened again until the ninth.
Jarman's performance spoiled a solid outing by Baylor starter Jeff Mandel (1-2), who was saddled with the loss. Mandel allowed three runs, one earned, on five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over 7.0 innings, matching the longest outing of his career.
Jake Weghorst pitched a scoreless eighth, and Nick Cassavechia was touched for one run in the ninth.
Matt Sodolak collected three of Baylor's four hits. Aaron Miller, who scored Baylor's first run of the day, had the only other hit for the Bears. Booker walked and was hit by a pitch twice. Baylor saw a streak of six consecutive games with at least 10 hits come to an end.
Sunday's loss also snapped a streak of 13 consecutive wins at Baylor Ballpark for the Bears with a chance to sweep a three-game series. The last time Baylor defeated a team in the first two games of a series at home but lost the finale was March 4, 2001, when
Baylor returns to action Tuesday, hosting Texas-Arlington (4-7) for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch at Baylor Ballpark. Freshman right-hander Kendal Volz (2-0, 4.80 ERA) is scheduled to get the start for the Bears.
