PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Sophomore Lenka Broosova won her first two matches at the Riviera ITA Women's All-American Championships on Tuesday and is now one win away from advancing to the tournament's top draw.

Broosova, currently ranked No. 54 by the ITA's preseason poll, beat Stanford's Whitney Deason (No. 69) in the first round of qualifying, 6-0, 6-4.

After a short break, Broosova returned to the courts where she earned her second victory of they day, beating Florida's No. 74 Anastasia Revzina (6-4, 6-4). The two faced each other in May when Florida ended Baylor's 2007 season in the NCAA Round of 16; Broosova won that match, 6-2, 6-3.

"Lenka did a great job of competing and playing smart tennis today," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "As the tournament continues the competition will only get stronger; but, Lenka has showed that she is ready to play on this kind of stage."

With her two wins at the event, Broosova improved to 7-0 on the year, including an individual title at the 2007 H-E-B Baylor Invitational (Sept. 28-30).

Broosova is joined by teammate Zuzana Zemenova (No. 6) at the tournament. Zemenova, by virtue of being named an All-American last season, has already earned her spot in the top draw and awaits the completion of qualifying.

In the mean time, the two teamed up to compete in doubles, where they are currently ranked 54th in the nation. In the opening round of qualifying, Broosova and Zemenova bowed out of the doubles tournament by way of an 8-6 loss to the 46th ranked Tracy Lin and Andrea Remynse of UCLA.

Qualifying competition will resume on Wednesday as Broosova will face either Maria Mizyuk (Nevada) or Ashley Joelson (UCLA).
