Equestrian Loses at Kansas State

Manhattan, Kan. - Baylor's equestrian team suffered a loss at the hands of Kansas State on Friday at the Fox Creek Stables in Manhattan, Kansas. Baylor junior Nicole Brown swept MVP honors in the English discipline garnering high-point scores in both Equitation Over Fences and Equitation on the Flat.
In its second competition of the season, the Bears fell to the Wildcats 14-6, 7-3 in English and 7-3 in Western.
In Equitation Over Fences, Brown tallied 83 points to claim the Bears' lone point. Brown and teammate Mary Smitson, a sophomore, rode to wins in Equitation on the Flat with scores of 84 and 75, respectively.
In Western Horsemanship, sophomore Lindsay Douglas, seeing the first varsity action of her career, earned Baylor its only point. Junior Nicole McCoy and freshman Katie Buss were point winners for the Bears in Reining.
Baylor will now travel to Stillwater, Okla., where they will take on Oklahoma State on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., at the Animal Science Arena on campus. The Cowgirls opened its season on October 6 when it hosted Tennessee-Martin and came away with a 16-4 victory.
The format features a series of head-to-head match ups. The team accumulating the most head-to-head victories will win the overall match. In the event of a tie, the victor will be determined by total points. In addition, there will be an individual awarded for the most valuable player in each discipline.
