WACO, Texas - Danielle Wilson was selected Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie of the Week by a media voting panel for games from Jan. 2-7 the league office announced on Monday. Wilson was recognized for the second time this season. In addition, Kelsey Griffin (Nebraska) and Tiffany Jackson (Texas) were named co-Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Players of the Week.
Wilson, a 6-3 freshman post, averaged 9.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in Baylor's two Big 12 victories last week. The league's top shot blocker also added five, bringing her season total to 53. Wilson has now blocked two or more shots in 15 of Baylor's 16 games this season. In BU's win over Texas Tech, Wilson, despite playing just 17 minutes, recorded her third double-figure rebounding effort of the season with 11. At Kansas, the Bay Shore, N.Y., native scored 13 points, 11 of which came in the first half, and was 6-of-9 from the floor in 20 minutes of action.
Wilson, a native of Bay Shore, N.Y., one the the league's top freshman players, ranks No. 8 nationally in blocked shots at 3.31 a game. Among Big 12 freshmen she ranks No. 1 in blocked shots, No. 2 in rebounding (6.6), No. 3 in scoring (10.4) and No. 5 in field goal percentage (.528).\
Baylor players have now earned Big 12 Rookie of the Week five of the 10 weeks the award has been selected. Wilson has two selections under her belt while Bernice Mosby has picked up the award twice and Latara Darrett was last week's winner. In addition, Mosby and Jessica Morrow have each earned Big 12 Player of the Week kudos.
