Scott earns preseason recognition for second-consecutive year
WACO, Texas – Baylor's Taliah Scott has been once again named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award preseason watch list, as announced by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on Tuesday afternoon.
Scott, a senior, returns to Baylor after an introductory year in green and gold in which she averaged 19.7 points per game and landed all over the program's single-season top 10. She tied for third in 3-pointers made and ranked first in 3-pointers attempted, fifth in free throws made, tied for eighth in free throws attempted and first in free throw percentage.
The Jacksonville, Fla., native accounted for 27% of the Bears' offense last season and ranked second in the Big 12 in scoring. She led Baylor in scoring in 27-of-33 games in 2025-26 and scored in double figures 30 times, including her first double-double (23 points, 10 assists) against Southeastern Louisiana.
Scott reached 1,000 career points in her 48th game in early 2026, averaging 21.1 points at the time. She became the 22nd Division I player since 2000 to hit the mark in 48 games or fewer, tying for the 19th-fewest games needed.
She earned numerous postseason honors, including Women's Basketball Coaches Association honorable mention All-America and All-Big 12 first team. She also was a unanimous selection to the preseason All-Big 12 team.
Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting in each of the three rounds starting Friday, Oct. 30. In February, the watch list of 20 players for the 2027 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award will be narrowed to 10, then to five in March. In late March, the five finalists will be presented to Meyers Drysdale and the Hall of Fame's selection committee, which will select the winner. The committee is composed of top women's college basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers.
The winner of the 2027 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award will be presented on a date to be determined, along with the other four members of the Women's Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Nancy Lieberman Award (point guard), Cheryl Miller Award (small forward), Katrina McClain Award (power forward) and Lisa Leslie Award (center).
Baylor women's basketball is presented by Central National Bank, a family-owned, independent bank headquartered in Waco, Texas, that provides uniquely personal service while simultaneously embracing the latest developments in banking technology.
