WACO, Texas - Baylor head men's tennis coach Matt Knoll will take seven players to Houston this weekend to participate in the 10th Annual Rice/Downtown Club at the Met Collegiate Indoor Invitational. Senior Matija Zgaga, junior Lars Poerschke, sophomores Matt Brown and David Galic and freshmen Attila Bucko, Denes Lukacs and Dominik Mueller will participate.
Brown, Lukacs, Mueller, Poerschke and Zgaga will compete in the 32-player A singles bracket while Bucko and Galic will see action in the 32-player B Flight. Three doubles duos will play in the 16-team doubles main bracket. Play begins on Friday and ends on Sunday.
In Friday singles play, Mueller, the tournament's No. 8 seed and ranked No. 53 nationally, will take on Jason Mok of Rice in first round action beginning at 10:30 a.m. Poerschke, the tournament's No. 9 seed and ranked No. 56 nationally, will play Filip Paroci of Rice at 11:30 a.m. while Lukacs, the tournament's No. 12 seed and ranked No. 66 nationally, will be matched up against Mikhail Pavlov of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 10:30 a.m.
Zgaga enters the tournament after competing at the Sherwood Tournament last weekend. He will take on the tournament's No. 11 seed, Drew Eberly (Ohio State) at 11:30 a.m.
Brown enters the tournament after posting a 9-5 fall record and will play Adam Holstrom of Denver at 12:00 p.m. while Bucko, coming off of his first win as a Baylor Bear, takes to the court against Diego Machuca of Southern Mississippi at 2:00 p.m.
Galic will see his first action of the spring season when he takes on Domajoi Anic of Southern Mississippi at 2:30 p.m.
Mueller and Zgaga will team up in doubles action on Friday and take on Rice's Jason Mok and Christoph Mûller while Galic and Poerschke will match up against Texas A&M's Brett Joelson and Bryan Wooten. Also, Brown and Bucko will play against TCU's Radu Barbu and Cosman Cotet. All three matches are slated to begin at 8:30 a.m.
The championship matches will be played on Sunday.
