WACO, Texas - The International Tennis Association (ITA) announced Wednesday the main draws for the 2006 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships hosted by the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., Oct. 5-8.
Baylor's Zuzana Cerna and Zuzana Zemenova were selected to the singles main draw, bypassing both qualifying and prequalifying rounds. In total, 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams will participate in the main draw.
Last year Cerna was selected to the prequalifying rounds and won six matches to advance to the main draw. Cerna, who was ranked No. 122 at the time, defeated two ranked opponents in her qualifying matches but fell in the main draw's round of 32 to Alabama's No. 4 Robin Stephenson. In consolation rounds, Cerna defeated No. 19 Emma Murphy from San Diego before being handed her final tournament loss by Georgia's No. 6 Shadisha Robinson.
Prior to the tournament's kick-off in October, the ITA will release fall rankings for both singles and doubles collegiate players. This fall's first poll will be posted Friday, Sept. 8, at www.itatennis.com.
