WACO, Texas - Michal Kokta, David Galic, Matt Brown, Denes Lukacs and Dominik Mueller will travel to Tulsa, Okla., to participate in the Polo Ralph Lauren Men's All-American Tennis Championships, hosted by the University of Tulsa, Sept. 30-Oct. 8. The tournament, hosted annually since 1979, will be held for the second straight year at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the Tulsa campus. The impressive field features 36 of the top 40 players from the current Fila national singles rankings.
There are three segments, prequalifying, qualifying and main draws, of the Polo Ralph Lauren Men's All-American Tennis Championships. Freshmen Lukacs and Mueller and Brown, a sophomore, are have been selected to participate in the 128-player qualifying draw which begins on Oct. 2. A player must win three matches to advance to the main draw. Lukacs, ranked No. 110, enters the tournament after an impressive collegiate debut at the Baylor-HEB Intercollegiate last week. He is 3-1 after advancing to the tourney quarterfinals which included a victory over ninth-ranked Jerry Makowski of Texas A&M.
Kokta, a senior, already has a spot in the tournament's main draw where action begins on Oct. 5. Kokta, ranked No. 23, comes into the tournament with a 6-0 singles record after claiming the championship of last weekend's Baylor-HEB Intercollegiate. Kokta and sophomore David Galic, currently ranked No. 24, will team up in the main draw doubles bracket.
The draws for the qualifying draw will be posted online the afternoon of Oct. 1, while the main draw listings will be posted on Oct. 4.
In last season's Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships, Baylor's Lars Poerschke advanced to the championship match where he fell to Georgia's John Isner, 7-6(4), 7-6(3). Poerschke and current senior Matija Zgaga were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the doubles bracket.
Poerschke will skip this year's Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships. He will compete in the Laguna Niguel Futures Tournament, Oct. 2 -8, at the the Laguna Niguel Racquet Club.
