Women's Tennis Announces 2006 Recruiting Class

WACO, Texas - Baylor women's tennis head coach Joey Scrivano announced Monday his 2006 recruiting class which includes two Slovakians, one Czech Republican, and one Canadian. Three of the student-athletes are incoming freshman and one is a transfer.
Jana Bielikova (Prievida, Slovakia) was the first to sign on with the Bears as she transfers in from the University of Presov in Slovakia. The sophomore recorded her highest world ranking in 2004 at No. 71 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Under-18 singles rankings.
Lenka Broosova (Banska Bystrica, Slovakia) will enter Baylor as a true freshman having graduated from the Osemrocne Sportove Gymnazium in Slovakia. Broosova's highest career ranking came in 2005 when the ITF Under-18 singles rankings listed her at No. 76 in the world.
Zuzana Chmelarova (Prague, Czech Republic) signed on as another true freshman recruit coming out of Gymnazium a Sportovni Gymnazium in the Czech Republic. Chmelarova recorded her highest career ranking in 2005 as No. 29 in the Czech Republic's Under-18 polls.
Jessica Zok (London, Ontario) completed high school in Canada and is Baylor's final true freshman signee. Zok earned a career high ranking as Canada's No. 4 Junior Under-18 tennis player.
"I am very pleased with our new recruiting class. My staff and I are anxious to get the fall season underway and begin the developmental process with these young ladies. We have high hopes for this year's team and our newcomers are a big part of that," said Scrivano.
Baylor's women's tennis team is coming off of its best season in program history, finishing with an overall 28-4 record. In conference play, the team went undefeated (11-0) in its regular season matches and also earned both regular-season and post-season Big 12 titles. Additionally, the Bears advanced to the NCAA tournament's quarterfinals for the first time ever.
