Women's Tennis Closes Out Season

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Baylor's women's tennis team concluded its season today at the NCAA individual tournament hosted by Stanford In the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) final team rankings released today, Baylor closes the spring ranked sixth in the nation. Two Bears, Zuzana Zemenova and Zuzana Cerna, played in the NCAA individual singles tournament and were eliminated in Friday's round of 16.

Zemenova, the fourth-seeded defending champion, fought California's Suzi Babos but fell 6-3, 6-2 to the Bear. Cerna, who was seeded in the 9-16 range, was defeated by Stanford's Celia Durkin 6-3, 6-1.

This year's team broke and set a number of records in the program this year, including posting the winningest season in program history with 28 wins. Cerna, only a junior, topped Baylor's most single wins in a season chart with 47 wins this spring.

In conference play, the Bears went undefeated and claimed both regular-season and post-season Big 12 Championships, a first for the program.

Adding to the season's success, the team advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA team tournament earlier this May, the farthest in program history.
