BRYAN, Texas - The Baylor women's golf team shot 310 and moved up to 12th with a 36-hole total of 628 after the second day of the NCAA Central Regional Friday at the 6,289-yard, par-72 The Traditions Club.
Junior Anna Rehnholm (Karlskrona, Sweden) dropped to a tie for 26th at 153 following her second-round 79. With the Bears starting from the 10th tee, she shot 3-over par on the back nine and 4-over par on her finishing front nine.
Junior Allison Martin (Bakersfield, Calif.) made an 11-stroke improvement with a 1-over par 73 and moved up to a tie for 45th at 157. Martin did not have a blemish and was 1-under par through 10 holes, with a birdie on 15. She double bogeyed two, then birdied five to get back even before bogeying seven.
Senior Meredith Jones (Eugene, Ore.) and junior Sherry Summers (Montgomery, Texas) are each tied for 68th at 162. Jones shot a 77, while Summers followed with her second straight 81. Jones played the back nine at 5-over par, but once again played well on the front nine, shooting even par. Summers shot 6-over par on the back nine and 3-over par on the front nine. Senior Josefin Svenningsson (Gislaved, Sweden) is tied for 88th after an 89. She carded five bogeys and five double bogeys.
Duke sits atop the team standings with a score of 594, overtaking Southern California by three strokes. Pepperdine (607), Nebraska (611), Florida (613), Northwestern (616), Michigan State (617) and Kent State (620) round out the top eight. Duke's Amanda Blumenherst (70-75) and Southern California's Irene Cho (71-74) share the individual lead at 145, one stroke up on Duke's Elizabeth Janangelo.
The top eight teams and two individuals from each of the three regionals advance to the 2006 NCAA Women's Golf Championships May 23-26 at The Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio. The tournament concludes with the third and final round Saturday. The first Baylor player tees off at 8:30 a.m., followed by the others in 10-minute increments.
