WACO, Texas - After earning Big 12 championship titles in both men's and women's tennis last week, Baylor received additional conference honors with Lars Poerschke and Daniela Covello earning the titles of Big 12 player of the week.
For the men, No. 6 ranked Lars Poerschke, a sophomore from Buseck, Germany, earned a nod from the Big 12 after leading Baylor to three conference victories last week. Playing in the top spot for Baylor, Poerschke defeated No. 11 Travis Helgeson of Texas in straight sets and also downed No. 63 Eric Molnar of Colorado in straight sets. Poerschke also posted a victory in Baylor's title-clenching match against Nebraska. Poerschke finished the regular season posting a 7-0 record in conference play and continuing a 10-match win streak.
On the women's side, Daniela Covello, a senior from Ontario, Canada, helped the Bears to two Big 12 wins and the conference title as they finished up their undefeated conference season last week. She posted two wins at No. 3 singles including the match clenching win over conference-rival Texas. Covello finished up the season 10-0 in Big 12 play 29-12 overall.
The men's and women's programs will play in the Big 12 Championships in Waco April 27-30 hoping to add the tournament crown to their regular season championship honors.
