Men's Golf Finishes 7th at Big 12 Championship

TULSA, Okla. - The Baylor men's golf team shot a final-round 305 for a total of 896 to finish seventh Tuesday at the 2006 Big 12 Men's Golf Championship at the 7,005-yard, par-70 Southern Hills Country Club, site of the 2007 PGA Championship.

Junior Chase Thomas (Dallas, Texas) shot a final-round 74 and tied for 15th with a total score of 219 (70-75-74). Thomas got off to a rough start with a double bogey on 10 and a bogey on 11. After a bogey on 13, Thomas was solid with three straight pars and a birdie on 17. He bounced back from a bogey on one with back-to-back birdies on three and four. Bogeys on six and nine finished out his round.

Senior Ryan Baca (Richmond, Texas) finished up with a 76 to tie for 25th with a total of 223 (74-73-76). Baca was 1-over par and had a birdie on 13 on the front nine, but struggled on the back. He shot four bogeys, had a double bogey on one and a birdie on three.

Sophomore Brian Meck (Austin, Texas) shot a final-round 76 and tied for 45th with a score of 229 (78-75-76). Meck had four bogeys on a birdie on both the front and back nines.

Junior Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) finished with an 80, tying for 49th with a total of 230 (71-79-80). Frye was 7-over on the front and 3-over on the back.

Redshirt freshman Bill Allcorn (Abilene, Texas) shot a 79 and tied for 55th with a total of 233 (74-80-79). Allcorn had five bogeys and a birdie on the front nine, then had three bogeys and a double bogey on the back.

Oklahoma claimed the team championship by four strokes over Texas and seven strokes over Texas A&M. Texas' Matthew Rosenfeld took the individual title with and even-par 210. Oklahoma's Brodie Flanders finished second at 212 and Oklahoma State's Pablo Martin finished third at 213.

The Bears will await the NCAA Regional selections May 8, before competing in The Maxwell May 13-14 in Ardmore, Okla. The NCAA Regional Championships will be held May 18-20.
