Seattle, Wash. - The No. 8 Baylor men's tennis team posted its second 4-0 shut-out in a row over No. 13 Florida State today at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships. The defending champion Baylor Bears finished on top of their consolation bracket after losing to No. 9 Duke in first-round action.
After Saturday's 4-0 victory over No. 16 Pennsylvania, the Bears came out looking strong against the Seminoles. Baylor easily took the doubles point with Matt Brown and Will Ward defeating Florida State's Sam Chang and Chris Cloer 8-1. The Baylor team of Matija Zgaga and David Galic took down Maciek Sykut and Drew Bailey of Florida State 8-5 to seal the doubles point for the Bears.
In singles, Baylor picked up wins in the No. 2, 4 and 5 spots to seal the victory. Nationally ranked No. 1 Lars Poerschke defeated Chris Westerhof in a 6-1, 6-1 match to start things off for Baylor. Then, Will Ward quickly took down Chris Cloer 6-0, 6-2 to put Baylor up 3-0. Jon Reckewey's victory over Florida State's Jason Hood sealed the deal for the Bears giving them the 4-0 win over the Seminoles.
The Bears went 2-1 in the tournament making their overall record for the season to 4-3. Next up, Baylor will host No. 19 Kentucky on Friday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center.
