WACO, Texas - In the program's only home show this semester, Baylor's equestrian team earned its third head-to-head victory this afternoon. The Bears outscored the Ladyjacks in all four disciplines, Equitation over Fences, Reining, Horsemanship, and Equitation on the Flat, to claim the 1057.5-1013.5 win against Stephen F. Austin.
The show began with Reining and Equitation over Fences where Baylor came out strong. Brenna Burris and Kendra Kemp tallied Baylor's highest scores in Reining, 70, while SFA's Jamie Melgares received the highest score of 71.5. In over Fences, Baylor's Susie Foster earned the high-point rider honor with her 82 points. The high scores helped the Bears to an early lead with 443-428 half way through the show.
Equitation on the Flat further boosted Baylor's lead as the Bears outscored the Ladyjacks 322-30. Though SFA's Catherine Brennam was the high point rider with 87, Nicole Brown earned Baylor's highest score with 86 points on her ride. Finally in Western Horsemanship, Burris and Nicole McCoy received outstanding scores of 74 each as they tied for high-point rider. Baylor earned a total of 292 points for Horsemanship, compared to SFA's 284.5 points, to give the Bears the overall head-to-head win.
Baylor has now earned three wins in head-to-head competitions, including victories against South Dakota State, SMU, and SFA. Next weekend the English riders will travel to College Station for Texas A&M's English IHSA show (Feb. 18-19).
