WACO, Texas - Baylor junior guard Aaron Bruce (Horsham, Australia) hit 5-of-8 3-pointers and led five Bears in double figures with 27 points in a 102-85 exhibition victory over Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday afternoon at the Ferrell Center.

"We gave up more points then we would have liked to," Bruce said. "Obviously our offense worked well - to score 100 pts in a college game is pretty rare, but we need to work on our rebounding and defense. They were a smaller team but to their credit they rebounded really hard."

Sophomore forward Kevin Rogers (Dallas, Texas) added 17 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Sophomore guard Curtis Jerrells (Austin, Texas) had 14 points and eight assists, and sophomore guard Henry Dugat (Dayton, Texas) chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds. Freshman center Josh Lomers (Boerne, Texas), starting in place of injured sophomore center Mamadou Diene (Yeumbeul, Senegal), scored 12 points. Freshman forward Penny Thiam (Dakar, Senegal) scored eight points and pulled down 10 boards.

"Offensively, 102 points is excellent no matter what time of year or who you are playing," Baylor head coach Scott Drew said. "Defensively, giving up 85 points is not good. You're definitely not going to win a lot of games giving up 32 free throws."

Archie Beason led Texas A&M-Commerce with 20 points, hitting 14-of-16 from the free-throw line. Lamar Searight added 15 points, while Champ Sylvester and Kevin Widemond scored 11 each. Bobby Joshua led the Lions on the glass with seven rebounds.

Baylor shot 57.4 percent from the floor, including 9-of-21 (42.9 percent) from behind the arc, while holding the Lions to 32.4 percent shooting from the floor. Texas A&M-Commerce also hit 9-of-31 from 3-point range.

The Bears outrebounded the Lions, 47-35, but Texas A&M-Commerce grabbed 17 offensive rebounds which led to 16 second-chance points.

Baylor used a seven-point run to build a 10-point lead before the midpoint of the first half and led by as many as 17 before taking a 48-34 into the break. In the second half, the Bears maintained a double-digit lead throughout, but never by more than 18.

The Bears open the regular season against Angelo State Saturday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. at the Ferrell Center.
