Results

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Baylor's equestrian team closed out its fall semester with a tough loss at Texas A&M Sunday at the N.W. "Dick" Freeman Arena. Though the Bears fell 12-8, freshmen April Wehle and Mary Smitson earned high-rider status in English events Equitation over Fences and Equitation on the Flat, respectively. Smitson was also named Flat MVP.

In the English portion of the show, Baylor showed five riders in each event, Fences and Flat. Wehle was the first rider for the Fences route and scored the event-high 85 points on her ride, earning a point for Baylor. Sophomore co-captain Nicole Brown tallied 73 points on her ride and recorded Baylor's only other over Fences point. The Aggies tallied the three remaining points.

On the Flat, the Bears again earned only two points to Texas A&M's three. Smitson scored 83.5 points and Wehle earned 75 points in their rides, enough to best their matched-up competitors. Overall in English, the Aggies defeated the Bears 6-4.

Baylor earned their final four points similarly to their English points, two from each event. In Horsemanship, freshmen Allison Orosz (70) and Lindsey Tomko (73) posted a point a piece while rookies Amanda Graber (70) and Valtie Riddle (70.5) recorded Baylor's Reining points. Overall in Western, Baylor was again outscored 6-4.

With fall action concluded, Baylor is 3-3 overall and 2-2 in conference. The Bears return to action facing the Aggies again for their first show next semester. Texas A&M comes to Waco Feb. 3, 2007.
