WACO, Texas - Behind 20 points and 17 rebounds from forward Bernice Mosby, the No. 18 Baylor women's basketball team built a large first-half lead and withstood a late Hofstra rally to defeat the Pride, 81-71, in action in the Preseason Women's NIT on Sunday.
With the victory, Baylor improves to 2-0 on the season and advances to face the winner of the BYU-Stanford contest in the semi-finals of the tournament.
Mosby controlled the game throughout the first 20 minutes as the senior forward posted a double-double in the first half alone, record 15 points and 12 rebounds in the first 20 minutes as Baylor built a 41-18 halftime edge.
Hofstra rallied in the second half; however, Baylor iced the game away from the free throw line, hitting 26-of-33 from the stripe in the contest as the Lady Bears went on to claim a 10-point victory.
Danielle Wilson and Latara Darrett came off the bench and each posted double-digit scoring outings for the Lady Bears as Wilson scored 12 points in the win while Darrett added 10 in the victory.
Angela Tisdale scored 16 points while Rachel Allison scored 12 points in the victory as Baylor had five players score in double figures.
Vanessa Gidden led Hofstra with 20 points on the day as the Pride had four players score in double figures in the loss.
Mosby's 17 rebounds was one shy from a career high for the senior as Baylor controlled the glass throughout, holding a 52-41 edge on the boards.
Baylor will host the semi-finals of the Preseason Women's NIT as the Lady Bears will face the winner of BYU and No. 4 Stanford on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 7:00 p.m.
