TULSA, Okla. - Both of Baylor's men's tennis players, Dominik Mueller and Michal Kokta, lost in first action of the main draw of the Polo Ralph Lauren Men's All-American Tennis Championships, hosted by the University of Tulsa, in Tulsa, Okla., on Thursday. However, Kokta is still playing as he won his first round consolation match.
Mueller, ranked No. 121, lost to fourth-seeded Somdev Devvarman of Virginia 6-3, 7-6(3). Kokta, ranked No. 23 suffered his first loss of the season with a 6-3, 7-6(5) setback to 19th-ranked Bryan Koniecko of Ohio State.
With their first round loss both players moved to the consolation bracket. Mueller dropped his match in straight sets to Virginia Tech's Nicolas Delgado, 6-4, 6-3. Kokta was extended to three sets before he defeated Ytai Abougzir of Florida State, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. He will play Notre Dame's Stephen Bass on Friday.
Kokta and sophomore David Galic, currently ranked No. 24, also lost in first round main draw action when North Carolina's Lenny Gullas and David Stone posted an 8-4 victory. They will play Big 12 Conference foes Daniel and Nathan Byrnes of Oklahoma State in consolation action on Friday.
