Men's Tennis' Brown Advances in Singles Draw

WACO, Texas - Baylor men's tennis' Matt Brown is the only singles player of the three Bears competing in the Texas Invitational at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center in Austin, Texas, that is still playing on Saturday. Brown won two matches on Friday while Denes Lukacs and David Galic were both eliminated from the competition.

Brown, a sophomore, received a first round bye then posted a round of 32 win over UT-Arlington's Daniel Omana, 6-4, 6-4 and defeated Omana's teammate Diego Mattar in the round of 16, 6-1, 7-5. Galic downed another UTA player when he defeated Gonzalo Bienzobas in the round of 64, 6-4, 6-3. Galic suffered elimination when Michael Brehler of Texas Tech triumphed 6-2, 6-3 in the round of 32. The Bears' final player, freshman Denes Lukacs, also received a bye in first round action then posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Lamar's Macjiek Bogusz in the round of 32. He fell in the round of 16 to Sinisa Markovic of Texas Tech, 6-7(5), 6-3, 10-8.

Doubles action for the Bears begins on Saturday morning when Galic and Lukacs take on Texas' Jonah Kane-West and Milan Mihailovic.

The championship matches will be contested on Sunday.
