FORT WORTH, Texas - Baylor's doubles tandem of David Galic and Matt Brown won two tennis matches on Monday to advance to the doubles finals in the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Men's South Central. The match is set to begin at 11:15 a.m.
The doubles champion from this event, hosted by TCU, will earn spots in the November 2-5 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by The Ohio State University at the Racquet Club of Columbus.
Brown and Galic, seeded No. 5 advanced to the championship match with two 8-6 wins. In the quarterfinals they defeated TCU's Radu Barbu and Cosmin Cotet and then downed Ben Harknett and Filip Paroci of Rice. The other semifinal between Andrei Kumantsov/ Mikael Pavlov (TAMUCC) and Milan Mihailovic/Miguel Reyes Varela of Texas will be contested at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. The championship match will follow at 11:15. The doubles tandem of Denes Lukacs and Dominik Mueller was eliminated from the tournament with an 8-6 quarterfinal loss to Kumantsov and Pavlov.
In singles, Lars Poerschke, the tournament's No. 1 seed, handily topped Kumantsov 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. After winning the first set in the semifinals, 6-2, Poerschke lost the next two sets to seventh-seeded Bojan Szumanski of Texas Tech 6-4, 6-2. Likewise, Mueller, the 12th-seed, dropped a three-setter in the quarterfinals to Texas' Milan Mihailovic, after winning the first set 5-7 then dropping the next two 6-4, 6-0.
