WACO, Texas - Baylor's equestrian team traded shows this weekend with a win and a loss on the road to conference rivals. The Bears defeated Kansas State 12-8 but were handed a 17-7 loss by Oklahoma State. Baylor is now 2-1 on the season in head-to-head shows.
Baylor earned its second win over Kansas State on Friday after having defeated the Wildcats at Georgia's Bulldog Invitational. In Manhattan, Kan., Baylor's English riders were outscored 3-2 on the Flat but rebounded over Fences and tallied a 4-1 victory to put the Bears up 6-4 overall heading into Western events. Cara Wilson earned MVP status for her Flat ride scoring 71 points.
In Horsemanship Kansas State bested Baylor 3-2 but couldn't take the lead. Baylor entered Reining ahead 8-7 and rode well enough to tally four more points to the Wildcats' one. Beth Banister was named the Reining MVP with her 76-point score.
Overall Baylor put away Kansas State 12-8. Exibition rounds also took place on Friday where the Wildcats defeated Baylor 12-11.
On Saturday in Stillwater, Okla., Baylor picked up only three points in English and four points in Western. The Fences riders fell 4-2 and Flat riders were outscored 5-1 against the Cowgirls. Baylor's Reining team scored four points.
Oklahoma State bested Baylor 17-7 in the programs' first head-to-head show.
The Bears return to action hosting Oklahoma State in a rematch Sat., Nov. 4, at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.
