Men's Golf Takes 3rd at Gridiron Golf Classic

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Baylor men's golf team shot a final-round 296, the second-lowest score of the day, to finish third with a total of 896 Tuesday at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic at the 7,011-yard, par-70 Warren Golf Course.
Senior Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas) fired a 71 and tied for fifth at 217. Alcorn was 2-over par after a birdie on seven, then parred eight straight holes before back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17. He closed with a bogey on 18 for a 1-under par score on the back nine.
Senior Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) and redshirt freshman Colton Williams (Jacksboro, Texas) tied for 14th at 224. Williams closed with a 72, which included back-to-back birdies on the front nine. Frye carded a 76, finishing with two birdies, four bogeys and a pair of double bogeys.
Junior Matt Briggs (San Antonio, Texas) shot a 77 to tie for 40th at 233. Briggs shot even-par on the front nine, but had a tough time on the back nine. Senior Colton Turnquist (Austin, Texas) shot an 82 and tied for 62nd at 240.
Lamar claimed the team title by 29 strokes over Notre Dame with a score of 820. The Bears finished one stroke ahead of Florida State. Lamar's Justin Harding claimed the individual title with a score of 213, one stroke ahead of Notre Dame's Cole Isban and Vanderbilt's Luke List.
The Baylor "green" team won the Bill Hill Crown Classic hosted by Stephen F. Austin at Crown Colony Golf Club in Lufkin, Texas, with a score of 2-under par 574. The tournament was shortened to 36 holes due to rain Tuesday, but complete results were unavailable.
Baylor returns to action next week in its final fall tournament at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Sunday through Tuesday at Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond, Okla.
