COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Baylor's equestrian program sent eight riders to Texas A&M's Big Eight Western show held at the E.W. `Dick' Freeman arena today in College Station. The Bears fell in the first round to top-seeded Texas A&M in the red bracket and then lost to second-seeded University of South Carolina in the Friday consolation round. Baylor entered the tournament seeded eighth since it was the only school entered in the show who did not compete at the Varsity National Championships held last April.
The Bear's high-point riders against Texas A&M were Ashleigh Brown and Nicole McCoy who both scored 144.5 points. Brown rode Flash and McCoy rode Goodie. Brenna Burris tallied 138.5 points on Happy while Amanda Esco earned 137 points riding Moon. On Bo, Stephanie Thompson finished with 134.5 points and Kendra Kemp scored 134 points riding Pete. Texas A&M outscored Baylor 717.5 to 699.
In the consolation round, USC defeated Baylor 711 to 693.5. Baylor's high-point rider inthe draw was again Brown as she earned 143 points on Trey. The next highest scores came from Thompson with 141 points riding Bones and McCoy with 139 points riding Zippy. Burris earned 136 points on Zipper and Esco scored 134.5 points on Mario. Kemp rode Dundee and tallied 125 points.
"We rode really well. At the end of each round each team drops a score and unfortunately each team dropped a zero. We would have beat them otherwise but it was a good day anyway, " said assistant coach Trista Armstrong.
