Men's Tennis Earns No. 1 Seed in NCAAs

WACO, Texas - The NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Committee named Baylor as the No. 1 seed for the 64-team 2005 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships on Wednesday. The top-seeded Bears will host Prairie View A&M, Texas and Rice at the Baylor Tennis Center in the first and second rounds, as Baylor looks to defend its 2004 team title and advance to College Station, Texas.

Baylor earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament after posting a 28-0 record this year. The Bears head into postseason play with a 52-match win streak, he nation's longest active win streak. Baylor's last loss came on Feb. 28, 2004 when they dropped a 4-3 decision to Southern California in Los Angeles. Prairie View A&M enters the tournament with a 13-8 record while Texas is 11-8 and Rice sports a 15-9 mark.

Competition will begin on Friday May 13 with Texas and Rice playing at 3 p.m. and Baylor playing Prairie View A&M at 6 p.m. The two Friday winners will play at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 14.

The 2005 NCAA Championships marks the eighth straight tournament appearance, all coming since head coach Matt Knoll arrived at Baylor.
