Dorsch Moves to Quarterfinals in NCAA Tennis

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Baylor senior Benedikt Dorsch advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas, on Friday afternoon. Dorsch and partner Matija Zgaga lost in doubles and Benjamin Becker was eliminated from the singles draw as well.

Dorsch, a senior and the tournament's top seed, raised his season record to 33-2 and posted his 10th straight win with his 6-4, 6-0 win over 51st-ranked Kevin Anderson of Illinois. The Weiden, Germany, native recently named the ITA Senior Player of the Year, will now take on Florida's Greg Ouellette, ranked No. 49, on Saturday at noon. Ouellette advanced to the quarterfinals by posting a 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 win over 16th-ranked Franticek Babej of South Alabama.

Senior Benjamin Becker, defending NCAA singles champion, was eliminated from the tournament today by 37th-ranked Izak van der Merwe of Old Dominion. The unseeded van der Merwe has now upset two seeded players, Becker and No. 2 seed Sam Warburg of Stanford. Becker ends his season with a 30-6 singles mark, including a 19-4 record versus ranked opponents. He is Baylor's all-time career singles and doubles leader with 141 singles victories and 104 doubles wins.

Two-time doubles All-Americans Dorsch and sophomore Matija Zgaga fell in the round of 16 to 16th-ranked Alex Schweizer and Gabor Zoltan from Auburn. The Auburn duo posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over the Baylor team to advance to the quarterfinals. As a tandem, Dorsch and Zgaga rank No. 3 on Baylor's career team doubles wins with 40. They finish the season with a 23-7 record.
