The Baylor men's golf team rebounded from an opening round 304 to shoot 292 and stand 21st after the second day of action at the NCAA Central Regional Friday at the 7,011-yard, par-70 Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame.
Redshirt freshman Wes Williams (Franklin, Tenn.) and sophomore Chase Thomas (Dallas, Texas) are tied for 63rd at 149 to lead the Bears. Williams followed up his first-round 73 with a 76, parring the first nine holes before bogeying six of seven and salvaging the round with a birdie on 17. Thomas had the low round of the day for the Bears with a 71, birdying the first three holes and adding another on 17.
Sophomores Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) and Colton Turnquist (Dallas, Texas) are tied for 84th at 151. Frye shot 74, including birdies on five and eight and pars on the last five holes. Turnquist carded a 75 and had birdies on two, 12 and 17.
Sophomore Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas) is out of the individual competition as his score from Thursday was disqualified. Alcorn can still contribute to the team score and posted a 72 Friday, including birdies on five and eight.
Oklahoma State leads the tournament with a score of 5-over par 565. Augusta State is three strokes back in second, while Missouri is third, Purdue is fourth and Texas, Kentucky and Wichita State are tied for fifth. Oklahoma State's Pablo Martin leads the individual competition with a score of 5-under par 135. Augusta State's Kalle Edberg and Missouri's Ben Scott are tied for second three strokes back at 138, while three are tied for fourth at 139.
The top 10 teams and two individuals on teams not in the top 10 of each of the three 27-team regionals will advance to the NCAA Championships June 1-4 at Caves Valley Golf Club in Baltimore, Md.
