WACO, Texas - The No.15 Baylor women's tennis team defeated their toughest conference opponent knocking off No. 10 Texas 5-2 today at the Baylor Tennis Center.

Texas came into today's match as the No.1 Big 12 team, undefeated in conference play 7-0. The Bears were also undefeated 6-0. The Bears record has now increased to 7-0, 16-3.

Baylor fought hard from the start. The doubles team of Carolin Walter and Zuzana Zemenova finished of Texas' Petra Dizdar and Mia Marovic. The No.31 Daniela Covello and Zuzana Cerna then defeated No.25 Kendra Strohm and Katie Ruckert coming back from behind and forcing a tie-breaker 9-8 (7).

The Bears went into singles play with a point on the boards but each match started with a 0-1 penalty due to a time violation on Baylor but that didn't slow down the Bears.

Baylor fought hard with four of six matches splitting sets. Walter grabbed the first victory for the Bears defeating Kendra Strohm 6-3, 6-4. Zuzana Cerna then overtook Katie Ruckert in a tie-breaker three set match winning 1-6, 6-3, 7-6(7). Klara Zrustova clenched the fourth point for the bears knocking off Courtney Zauft 6-6(7), 6-4.

Zuzana Zemenova performed the comeback of the day. Down 0-6, 0-3, Zemenova came back and defeated No.73 Petra Dizdar 0-6, 6-4, 6-1. After tying up the second set at 3-3, Zemenova came alive and held Dizdar to only two more games.

With this win, the Bears advance to No.1 in Big 12 standings and remain undefeated in conference action.

Baylor will next host Texas Tech on Friday, April 8 at 5 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center.
