TRINITY, Texas - Sophomore Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas) is in the lead at the Big 12 Championships after firing a five-under-par 67 in the first round. He currently has a one shot advantage after day one of competition at the 7,330 yard, par-72 Whispering Pines Golf Club.

Alcorn, who started on the back nine, got off to a hot start with birdies on his first and third holes of the day. After finishing his first nine at three-under-par, he got into a little trouble with a double bogey on his tenth hole. However, he quickly bounced back with eagles on the 576-yard, par-five second hole and the 396-yard, par-four sixth hole. Alcorn also managed two more birdies on his second nine, which helped propel him into the lead after day one with a 67.

Baylor as a team is in a tie for sixth with Nebraska and host Texas A&M after opening the tournament with a first round total of 303. Oklahoma State (285) is in first and holds a five shot advantage over rival Oklahoma (290) and ten-stroke advantage over third place Missouri. Texas Tech (299) is in fourth place while Iowa State (302) sits three shots back rounding out the top-five.

Sophomore Chase Thomas (Dallas, Texas) is currently in a tie for seventh after firing a one-under-par 71 in the first round, which included four birdies. Redshirt freshman Brian Meck (Austin, Texas) is tied for 55th after shooting an 81, while sophomore Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) and sophomore Colton Turnquist (Austin, Texas) are both tied for 58th after opening play with rounds of 84.

The tournament continues with the second round Saturday and the final round Sunday.
