WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's tennis team, ranked No. 15 nationally, finished the Big 12 regular season at 11-0 in sole possession of the Big 12 Championship. They now head to the Big 12 Tournament, hosted by the University of Texas, April 28-May 1 at Texas' Penick-Alison Tennis Center. The University of Texas will provide live scoring of all matches played at the campus tennis center (www.TexasSports.com). The Lady Bears, 20-4 on the season, by virtue of their first place finish, received a first-round bye and will face the winner of the No. 8 Oklahoma State/No. 9 Missouri match at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 29. Friday's winner will advance to the semifinals on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Oklahoma State enters their match against Missouri with an 8-14 overall record and ended Big 12 play at 4-7. The Cowgirls are led by freshman Iryna Tkachenko. Baylor blanked the Cowgirls in Stillwater on April 23, 7-0.
Missouri, currently ranked No. 69, finished Big 12 play with a mark of 4-7, the Tigers are 14-8 on the season. Baylor posted a 7-0 win over Missouri in Waco on March 26. Missouri is led by senior Katka Sevcikova.
Baylor Notes...
-All but five of the Lady Bears' matches have been against teams ranked in the top 75 nationally. In fact, 12 of their matches have been against teams ranked in the top 50.
-BU won its second Big 12 title in 2005, the team shared championship honors with Texas A&M in 2003.
-Baylor posted its first-ever undefeated Big 12 season with an 11-0 mark.
-The women's tennis team is 42-14 in its three-year history at the Baylor Tennis Center.
- The Lady Bears are 10-1 at the Baylor Tennis Center this season and 3-1 when they've had to move home matches to indoor courts.
- For the first time in school history, four players have posted 20-win seasons: Klara Zrustova (25), Zuzana Krchnakova (23), Zuzana Cerna (20), Zuzana Zemenova (20). In addition, two are one victory away from reaching the 20-win mark, Daniela Covello and Iva Mihaylova each have 19 triumphs.
- Baylor is 4-4 on the season when losing the doubles point.
- BU has blanked seven teams this season.
- BU has swept Nos. 3-6 singles 11 times this season.
- In singles since February, BU is 18-2 at No. 1, 13-7 at No. 2, 19-5 at No. 3, 20-2 at No. 4, 21-3 at No. 5 and 17-3 at No. 6.
- Baylor has won 15 straight matches at No. 5 singles, the streak began on March 5 at Colorado.
- Baylor is 21-3 on the season at No. 4 and 20-2 at No. 3.
