DORADO BEACH, Puerto Rico - The Baylor men's golf team completed the third and final round of the Hyatt Plantation Club Intercollegiate with a third round score of 302 and finished sixth at the 6,834 yard, par-72 Plantation Club. This marks the fourth straight top-10 finish of the 2004-05 season for the Bears.
Sophomore Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas) finished the tournament in a tie for 17th at 2-over par 218 (70-71-77=218). Freshman Wes Williams (Franklin, Tenn.) completed the tournament tied for 26th after posting a three round total of 221 (72-74-75=221). Sophomore Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) shot a one-over par 73 (75-74-73=222) in the final round which put him in a tie for 31st, while sophomore transfer Chase Thomas (Dallas, Texas) finished in a tie for 36th at 226 (75-74-77=226). Another sophomore, Colton Turnquist (Austin, Texas) completed play at the Plantation Club in a tie for 40th at 227 (72-78-77=227). Freshman Brian Meck (Austin, Texas) shot a one-over-par 73 in the final round of play and finished in a tie for 26th playing as an individual.
Baylor (884) as a team finished behind Kentucky (851) who won the tournament by two strokes over second place Georgia Southern (853). Host Georgia State (857) finished third while Indiana (877) and Southern Mississippi (877) finished the tournament in a tie for fourth.
Georgia Southern's Aron Price claimed the individual title by shooting rounds of 67, 68 and 71 to finish two shots ahead of Kentucky's John Holmes.
The Bears will return to action next week March 14-15, when they travel to Florida to play in The Naples Invitational hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University, at the Hammock Bay G.C. in Naples, Fla.
