GAINSEVILLE, Fla. - Top-ranked Baylor men's tennis earned its 10th win of the season Wednesday, in a decisive 5-2 decision over No. 7 Florida in Gainesville, Fla. The win is the 34th-straight for Baylor as the Bears improve to 10-0 in 2005. Florida falls to 5-4, having lost four of the last five.
Benjamin Becker and Jon Reckewey took the first doubles match of the day for the Bears with an 8-3 win over Jordan Dolberg and Ryan Sherry in the third court. The 44th-ranked Baylor duo of Benedikt Dorsch and Matija Zgaga clinched the doubles point with an 8-3 win over Hamid Mirzadeh and Greg Oullette, giving Baylor a 1-0 lead.
The Bears came out strong in singles action, taking the first-two singles points from the Gators. No. 19 Lars Poerschke defeated No. 29 Oullette 6-1, 6-3 in the third court. Michal Kokta then cushioned Baylor's lead with a 7-5, 6-2 win over No. 69 Chris Brandi.
After the Bears dropped the singles point on the second court, Vladimir Portnov secured the win for Baylor with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Sherry in the sixth court.
Baylor returns home for two matches this weekend. The Bears host Virginia Commonwealth on Friday at 3 p.m. Baylor takes the court again on Saturday against No. 2 Virginia at 1 p.m.
