NAPLES, Fla. - The Baylor men's golf team fired the fifth-lowest team round in school history with a 276; however, it wasn't enough as the Bears finished second by two strokes to St. Mary's in the final round of the Lexus Naples Invitational Tuesday at the 6,879-yard, par-72 Hammock Bay Golf and Country Club Tuesday.

Sophomore Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas) led the Bears by finishing second and shooting a 7-under par 209 for the tournament. Alcorn fell just short of his third individual victory of the year, bogeying the final hole and losing by a single stroke.

Sophomore Chase Thomas (Dallas, Texas) recorded his first top-10 finish as a Bear, firing a 3-under 213. Thomas was even par or better in all three rounds with a 72, 70 and 71. Fellow sophomore transfer Colton Turnquist (Austin, Texas) shot a 1-under 215 with scores of 70, 76 and a tied his career-low with a final-round 69.

Junior Will McDonald (Birmingham, Ala.) and sophomore Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) tied for 15th at 1-over 217. McDonald recorded scores of 74, 75 and a career-low 68 in the final round. Frye shot 73, 70 and 74.

St. Mary's shot a 272 in the final round to win the tournament with a final total of 19-under 845. Baylor was the only other competitor close, two behind at 847. The Bears were 16 shots better than third-place Illinois and 26 better than Marquette and Wisconsin, who tied for fourth.

Liam Kendregan of St. Mary's claimed individual medalist honors by shooting 8-under par 208, one stroke ahead of Alcorn. Portland's Mike McCabe and Illinois' Kyle Hosick tied for third at 211, while Fresno State's Ryan Carter and Joe Lanza of St. Mary's tied for fifth at 212.

The Bears return to action the Border Olympics March 25-26 at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas.
