SAN ANTONIO, Texas -
Sophomore Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas) fired a 1-under par 70 in the final round of the UTSA Roadrunner Intercollegiate to win his second career title at the 6,691-yard, par-71 Oak Hills Country Club. His victory helped the Baylor team to a third place finish in the 18-team field.
Alcorn (65-75-70=210) finished the tournament at 3-under par which included a career low six-under par 65 in the first round. He finished one shot ahead of second place finishers Judd Easterling of Wichita State and Tyler Docking of Kansas. This now makes it two years in a row that a Baylor Bear has captured the individual title at the Roadrunner Intercollegiate. Senior Ryan Baca (redshirting) claimed the tournament title last year helping the Bears to a second place finish.
Sophomore transfer Colton Turnquist (Austin, Texas) finished tied for 17th (72-69-77=218) playing in his first tournament for the Bears, while freshman Wes Williams (Franklin, Tenn.) fired a three-over par 74 in his final round to finish tied for 25th (72-74-74=220). Another transfer, sophomore Chase Thomas (Dallas, Texas) shot two-over par 73 in his final round to finish tied for 33rd (74-75-73=222) in his debut, while sophomore Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) opened play with a 69 in his first round and finished tied for 51st (69-76-82=227).
Baylor as a team finished tied for third after posting a final round 294 (278-293-294=865). This marks the Bears fourth Top-10 finish of the 2003-04 season. Kansas (284-292-284=860) claimed the team title by two shots over Wichita State (290-291-291=862) and five shots over the Bears which rounded out the top-five.
