LEXINGTON, Ky. - Top-ranked men's tennis improved to 4-0 in dual matches Saturday, as the Bears defeated No. 13 Kentuck 5-2 at the Boone Tennis Complex on Kentucky's campus.
The Bears started the day building momentum after winning the doubles point. Benedikt Dorsch and Matija Zgaga defeated Tigran Martirosyan and Jesse Witten in the No. 1 court 8-5. Benjamin Becker and Jon Reckewey handled Matt Emery and Nolan Polley 8-4 in the third court.
In singles action, the Bears took four of six from the Wildcats. Dorsch, Becker, Lars Poerschke and Michal Kokta had the upper hand in their matches.
On the No. 1 court, Dorsch defeated Witten by default to grab the first singles point for Baylor. In the third court, Martirosyan forced a third set with Poerschke. The Baylor freshman won the first set 6-1 before Martirosyan took the second set 6-3. However, Poerschke controlled the third set, and ultimately took the match 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.
Baylor returns to action Thursday, February 17, when the Bears travel to the National Team Indoors in Chicago, Ill.
