Men's Tennis Captures National Indoor Title

CHICAGO, Ill. - The No.1-seeded Baylor men's tennis team defeated the No. 9 seed Virginia Sunday 4-1 to capture the championship title at the USTA/ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championship at the Mid-Town Tennis Center.
The Bears, now 8-0 on the season, continued their 32 match winning streak dating back to last season when they took their first NCAA championship. Baylor now adds the National Team Indoor title to its list of wins. Yesterday, the Bears defeated the two-time defending champ Illinois 4-3 in the semifinals to advance into the championship while Virginia advanced with a 4-1 win over Mississippi.
After nailing down the doubles point, Matija Zgaga overtook Virginia's Marko Miklo in a 6-4, 6-2 victory putting up another point for Baylor. Benedikt Dorsch breezed by Doug Stewart winning 6-3, 6-0 and putting Baylor one point away from the championship title at 3-0.
Then, Virginia's Darrin Cohen defeated the Bear's Vladimir Portnov 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 to earn Virginia's first and only point of the day.
Michal Kokta clenched the win for the Bears when he defeated Treat Huey in a hard-fought, three set match 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 making the final score 4-1.
The Bears will return to action Friday, Feb. 25 when they will take on Pepperdine in Waco at 6 p.m.
