WACO, Texas - Defending national champion men's tennis travels to the 2005 U.S. Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Men's Team Indoor Championships this weekend at the Mid-Town Tennis Club in Chicago, Ill.
Premier programs from across the country constitute the 16-team field. NCAA tournament semifinalists, Illinois and Southern Cal, and finalist UCLA hold the tournament's top seeds behind Baylor. Boise State, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Harvard, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Stanford and Virginia round out the field.
Dating back to 1973, the USTA/ITA tournament is the longest-running ITA event. Host Illinois is the back-to-back defending champion of the UTSA/ITA indoor event. Illinois defeated Florida 4-2 in 2003, then, last season, the Illini handled UCLA 4-0.
First-round action starts Thursday afternoon for Baylor against 16th-seeded Boise State at 3 p.m. CST.
