WACO, Texas - In the program's home opener, the Bears posted a solid 934-743 victory over the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State. Both English and Western disciplines were performed in which Baylor bested SDSU 446-396 in English and 488-347 in Western. The Bears will go for their second season win as they host SMU tomorrow morning.
The Equitation over Fences riders out-scored their competitors as Susie Foster posted 67 points, Shelby White had 61, and Nicole Brown had 55. In the Flat portion, White scored 71 points, N. Brown earned 70, Amanda Esco posted 61, Atlee Johnston added 60, and Susie Foster scored 56.
In Western Horsemanship, Nicole McCoy scored 72.5 points, Kim Crook earned 71.5, Ashleigh Brown tallied 69, Brenna Burris added 68.5, and Stephanie Thompson had 65. The Reining portion included Esco who posted 70.5 points as well as Burris and Kendra Kemp who both earned 68 points.
McCoy earned a first place standing in the Western Rail Work while Crook placed third and A. Brown placed fifth.
The Bears will return to action tomorrow against SMU at the Baylor Equestrian Facility. The English show will begin at 10 a.m.
