COLLEGE STATION, Texas - In Texas A&M's N.W. `Dick' Freeman Arena today, Baylor finished fifth in day two at its first ever Intercollegiate Horse Association English show. The Bears posted two first place riders in their individual sections, Equitation over Fences in the open difficulty and advanced Walk-Trot-Canter. Texas A&M and Oklahoma State tied for first in the English tournament today.
Baylor had five riders compete in day two's Equitation over Fences discipline. In the open field, Nicole Brown finished first in her section while Mollie Smith placed sixth in hers. The intermediate riders, Atlee Johnston and Shelby White, finished second and fifth in their respective sections, and Jill Anthony ranked second in her novice field's section.
The Equitation on the Flat featured six Bears where Amanda Esco and Deirdre Sabo both placed sixth in the open field. Kim Marlowe finished third as Nicole McCoy finished fourth in their novice performances, and lastly the intermediate riders, White and Anthony, finished second and fifth, respectively.
Finally, Baylor's Lera Thompson captured first in her section of the advanced WTC while Jobi Spencer finished fifth in her group.
The first place tie in yesterday's competition was the program's highest placing thus far. The finish also claimed defeat over the regional champion team of Texas A&M.
The equestrian team will host South Dakota and SMU this weekend in their first home show. The head-to-head competition begins Friday, Nov. 18 afternoon at 2 o'clock against South Dakota while SMU will ride against the Bears Saturday at 10 a.m.
