ATHENS, Ga. - In the program's first competition, Baylor's equestrian team was exposed to experienced competition Friday at the Big Eight English Show in Athens, Ga. Both English and Western disciplines were tested as five Bears rode today and will ride again tomorrow.
The overall English score had Baylor beat by South Carolina 414-362. In the Equitation over Fences, Nicole Brown scored 83 points, Susie Foster posted 75, and Shelby White scored 71 for a total of 229. In Equitation on the Flat, Brown earned 62, Atlee Johnston received 71, and White scored 42 equaling 175.
In the English consolation round, Fresno State defeated Baylor 365-338. The riders posted 206 points in the Equitation over Fences with Brown scoring 63, Foster 78, and White 65. The Equitation on the Flat earned Baylor 181 points broken into Brown's 62, Johnston's 49, and White's 70.
The show also consisted of an Western exhibition in which Brenna Burris participated. She competed in the Reining discipline scoring 71 points to earn third place and ranked second in Horsemanship with a score of 74.
The show continues tomorrow at 8 a.m. beginning with the Western semifinal and final rounds. English rounds are scheduled to being at 11 a.m. and run through the afternoon.
