TALLAHASEE, Fla. - The Baylor women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win today against Florida State University completing their first match of the season after yesterday's season opener against University of Florida was rained out.
After a weather delay, the Bears began doubles play. Baylor lost the doubles point when Daniela Covello and Zuzana Cerna defaulted to FSU's number one spot Mihaela Moldovan and Lindsay Deason. Baylor's Zuzana Zemenova and Klara Zrustova picked up a doubles win defeating Roxanne Clarke and Miranda Foley 8-4. Iva Mihaylova and Caroline Korsawe were defeated 8-0 by Florida State's Tapiwa Marobela and Amberly Tantee giving FSU the doubles point.
The Bears came out strong in singles action winning five of six matches and securing the overall win. Zemenova picked up the first win over FSU's Moldovan 6-2, 6-3. Zuzana Cerna defeated Clarke in the number three spot 6-2, 6-2 and Zrustova easily knocked off Foley 6-1,6-1. Mihaylova and Zuzana Krchnakova also picked up wins for Baylor.
Baylor's only singles loss came when Covello was defeated by FSU's Deason 6-0, 6-0.
The Lady Bears will return to action next weekend when they travel to Atlanta, Ga., to take on Georgia Tech on Saturday and then Athens, Ga., where they will face University of Georgia on Sunday.
