WACO, Texas - Baylor's women's tennis trio that traveled to Houston to compete in the seven-team Houston Hilton Plaza Rice Tennis Classic faltered in first day action. Junior Zuzana Krchnakova won her round of 16 match then lost in the quarterfinals while junior Daniela Covello and sophomore Iva Mihaylova each lost their first match. In doubles action, Covello and Mihaylova lost their first match.
Krchnakova advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Yale's Christine Alford in three sets. Krchnakova whipped through the first set with a 6-0 win but dropped the second 3-6. She garnered the victory by beating Alford 6-4 in the final stanza. In quarterfinal action, Krchnakova lost to 58th-ranked Blair DiSesa of Rice, 6-0, 6-3. Mihaylova lost in straight sets to Northwestern University's Alexis Prousis, 6-0, 6-1 and Northwestern's Audra Cohen downed Covello, 6-1, 6-1.
Covello and Mihaylova each posted easy two-set victories in the consolation quarterfinals. Mihaylova downed UT-San Antonio's Chantel Lesaar, 6-2, 6-0 while Covello raced past UT-San Antonio's Paula Erausquin, 6-2, 6-0.
In the 16-team doubles bracket, Covello and Mihaylova lost to Jamie Peisel and Kristi Roemer of Northwestern 8-6.
